Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina is located on the banks of the Neretva river in the middle of Herzegovina. The city is famed for its Old Bridge, built in the 16th century, which was destroyed as the world watched on in the Balkans conflict of 1993. After the war, the bridge was rebuilt.
The historical and architectural heritage of this small town is a cultural gem and the town can offer lessons both from its distant and recent past. The Old Bridge museum and Architectural museum are just two of the highlights. The restaurants and Turkish style coffee houses which lined the narrow streets and river area are a delight to enjoy and on a hot day, watch the daredevil jumpers who risk injury jumping from the Old Bridge.
