Tirana, Albania
Tirana is the capital city of Albania. Modern Tirana was founded as an Ottoman town in 1614 by Sulejman Bargjini, a local ruler from Mullet. A day trip to Tirana from Montenegro provides the opportunity to learn more about this country which was closed for so long to the outside world until relatively recently.
Tirana became Albania’s capital city in 1920. The city is host to many public institutions, public and private universities, and is the centre of the political, economic, and cultural life of the country.
